École Notre Dame Elementary

NDE Meet the Teacher BBQ

Meet the Teacher Night

This year, École Notre Dame Elementary hosted their Meet the Teacher BBQ before the start of the school year. Families were encouraged to drop off their child(ren)’s school supplies ahead of the first day, meet the teacher, and tour the school.

The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority once again volunteered their time manning the barbecue, while the School Council recruited members and shared information.

This is in alignment with Goal Three: Equity and Inclusion.

Expanding the Daycare

The Daycare Program at the school is growing, and even more full-day spots were available for three and four-year-old children. All of the students enrolled in the Daycare Program attend the Preschool Program as well.

This is in alignment with Goal Two: Student Success.

Strength Cards

In alignment with Goal Three: Equity and Inclusion, teachers have started implementing a new strategy in their classroom.

Strength Cards are used with all of the students in a classroom to help them identify their strengths and the strengths of those around them. Research has shown when students are able to identify their strengths, their self worth increases and the culture in the classroom becomes one of inclusion and teamwork.

Integrating Technology

In alignment with Goal Two: Student Success, students have  started receiving their technological devices and are using them to showcase their learning. Some classes work with iPads, while others utilize Chromebooks.

Students completed a scavenger hunt of tasks to ensure everyone understands the basics of the tool.

New Bus

Light of Christ has purchased a new school bus from Assumption Jr/Sr High School. The purchase will benefit students in their curriculum learning as well as extra-curricular opportunities. Teachers will be able to access more local learning opportunities including visiting the Lac La Biche Museum, library, landfill, municipal government, and more.

Sports teams will also utilize the bus to attend tournaments.
