Technology Update
Director of Technology Clint Elliott presented a technology update to the Board of Trustees including an overview of recent additions to the technology staff, current technology infrastructure and future considerations, and the future of AI in schools.
Inclement Weather Administrative Procedure
Lakeland Catholic recently updated the Inclement Weather Policy to reflect a recent a change to when buses are cancelled due to weather. Prior to the amendment, buses operated when temperatures were -45 degrees celsius with a windchill or -40 degrees celsius without. The change now reflects a -40 degree celsius or below temperature for buses to be cancelled regardless of windchill.
The policy also includes the baseline temperature for when recess is to be held inside, which is -25 degrees celsius or below with or without a windchill.
During their meeting on Wednesday, they amended the Inclement Weather Administrative Procedure to reflect the same changes.
Projected Enrolments
Lakeland Catholic’s Secretary-Treasurer Tessa Hetu provided an overview of the projected enrolments for the 2024-25 school year. This information is provided to Alberta Education and determines the funding the division receives from the province.
The division is currently predicting 2,700 students, which is in alignment with the current school year.
In order to determine the projection, the division moves students up a grade level and relies on a three-year average for Kindergarten enrolments.
