public statement

June 23, 2025 - With heavy hearts, Lakeland Catholic School Division shares the heartbreaking news of the passing of one of our students. We extend our deepest prayers and condolences to the student’s family, classmates, staff, and the broader school community.

In times of sorrow, we take comfort in the words of Christ: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted” (Matthew 5:4).
As a Catholic school community, we unite in prayer, trusting in God's mercy and asking Him to bring peace to all who are grieving.

The Division’s Crisis Response Team is on-site, offering support to all those affected. Through prayer, guidance, and compassionate care, our team remains present and committed to walking alongside the school community in the days ahead.

“This is a profound loss,” Superintendent Sheldon Germain shared. “We will continue to gather in prayer and remind our students of God’s love and presence, even in times of sadness. We are grieving with our families, our staff, and our communities. May we lean on one another and on Christ, who is always near to the brokenhearted. We trust in the strength of our community to come together in faith, compassion, and unity.”

We respectfully ask for privacy for the family and all those impacted. Please continue to keep them in your prayers.
