Catholic School Review

About the Review

Catholic schools play an essential role in the mission of the Church. As faith-based learning communities, they are called to provide an authentic Catholic education that nurtures students in mind, body, and spirit.

To ensure this mission remains at the heart of all we do, Lakeland Catholic School Division has implemented a Catholic School Review process across all schools in response to the encouragement and recommendation of Bishop Gary Franken. This process aligns with the practices of other Catholic school divisions across Alberta and supports our shared goal of forming students who know and love Christ.

Purpose

The Catholic School Review helps schools celebrate the strengths of their Catholic identity while identifying opportunities for continued growth and formation. Guided by the document Marks of an Excellent Catholic School, the process deepens our commitment to faith formation and aligns with our Division Education Assurance Plan.

How the Process Works

The review follows a three-phase cycle designed to provide meaningful reflection and practical direction:

  1. Preparatory Phase
Schools collect and reflect on evidence of their Catholic practice, culture, and faith integration in advance of a site visit.

  2. Visitation Phase
A school-based review team visits the school to conduct in-person interviews with staff, students, families, and parish priests. Surveys are also shared with key stakeholders to gather a broad range of perspectives.

  3. Implementation Phase
Following the review, school and division leadership collaborate to implement recommendations that strengthen Catholic identity and celebrate effective practices.

Review Schedule

Over the next two years, each of our schools will participate in this process.
Our plan is to review four schools in 2025–2026 and four in 2026–2027. Afterward, schools will enter a three-year rotation aligned with the Division’s Education Assurance Plan.

Your Voice Matters

The strength of this process depends on the insight and participation of our parents and guardians. Surveys and interviews provide valuable feedback that helps us understand how our schools are living our mission:

Christ Our Model. Children Our Focus.

Sharing Our Journey

Upon completion of each review, a summary report will be posted on our Division website. These reports highlight the faith-filled strengths of each school and outline recommendations for continued excellence in Catholic education.
