Safety & Belonging at Lakeland Catholic

Forming Hearts in Christ: Our Catholic Approach to Safety and Belonging
At Lakeland Catholic, we do not respond to bullying or harmful behaviours with campaigns alone—we respond with identity.
Our mission, Christ Our Model. Children Our Focus., calls us to form hearts, minds, and souls in a way that reflects the dignity of every person as a child of God.
While Alberta continues to strengthen supports and prevention programs for violence, bullying, and abuse, our Catholic approach begins with the Gospel truth at the centre of our work:
Every person is created in the image and likeness of God, deserving of honour, compassion, and safety.
This conviction shapes our culture long before harmful behaviours take root..
Rooted in Christ, We Build Communities of Love
Our faith theme, Do Small Things with Great Love, guides our daily work with students. Small acts of kindness — a welcome, an apology, an invitation to belong — are the building blocks of safe, supportive school communities.
Guided by Catholic Social Teaching, we uphold:
Dignity of the Human Person
We honour the inherent worth of every student and staff member. The Common Good
We nurture communities where each person can flourish.Solidarity
We stand with those who are hurting, isolated, or afraid.
A Message for Those Who Are Hurt
If a student or staff member is experiencing harm, we want them to know:
You are not alone.
You are loved.
You are safe with us.
There is help, there is hope, and there is healing.
We accompany families with care, ensuring they know where immediate supports and provincial resources are available—because accompaniment is part of our call.
Beyond Preventing Bullying, We Build Communion
Bullying is not only a behavioural concern; it is a wound to relationship.
Our response is not simply corrective—it is formative.
We cultivate:
Classrooms where respect is normal
Hallways where every child feels seen
Conversations that build character
Leadership rooted in compassion and courage
A culture where belonging is expected, not exceptional
This is the work of evangelization: helping young people know who they are, Whose they are, and how they are called to treat one another through the eyes of Christ.
A Call to Our Leaders
As Catholic leaders, we do not simply enforce expectations—we form disciples.
We model:
Mercy in conflict
Courage in accountability
Compassion in correction
Patience in guiding growth
Prayer in moments of struggle
Together, we shape cultures where kindness becomes instinctive and where Christ’s love is the measure of every interaction.
In Every School, Let Christ Be the Foundation
This is not a one-day or one-week campaign.
This is the daily mission of Catholic education.
With Christ as our anchor, hope, justice, and love will always have the final word.
