École Notre Dame Elementary


Kehewin Dance Theatre - NDE

Truth and Reconciliation

In honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, École Notre Dame Elementary invited the Kehewin Native Dance Theatre to share their culture, traditions, and stories through a presentation. 

This aligns with Goal Two, where the school is providing students an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the FNMI teachings, traditions, and culture. 

Terry Fox Foundation

The school managed to raise over $3,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation. As a reward for their fundraising efforts, students participated in a fun activity in the gymnasium. 

This is in alignment with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity. 

Grateful Thursdays

Staff and students are sharing what they are thankful for again this year through the school’s Grateful Thursdays/Merci Pour. 

This aligns with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity.

École Dr. Bernard Brosseau

Truth and Reconciliation

The Kehewin Youth Dancers shared stories and traditions with Dr. Brosseau School as part of their Orange Shirt Day events. 

This aligns with Goal Three: Equity and Inclusion, under the outcome students are supported academically, socially, and emotionally for optimal wellbeing. 

Instrument Zoo

Grade 5 students tested our various instruments during the school’s Instrument Zoo. École Notre Dame High School band students share their knowledge and passion for their instrument in hopes of inspiring future musicians. 

 This aligns with Goal Two: Student Success. 

Terry Fox

In alignment with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity, Dr. Brosseau students laced up their sneakers and participated in the annual Terry Fox Run. 

The school invited guest speaker Curtis Hargrove who shared his own inspiring store involving the Terry Fox Foundation. 


École Notre Dame High

Opening School Mass

Staff and students at École Notre Dame High School gathered at St. Louis Parish for the Opening School Mass on September 15. 

This aligns with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity.


Terry Fox

Students hit the pavement for the school’s Terry Fox Run, raising over $1,000 for cancer research. 

Participation in this fundraiser aligns with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity. 

Truth and Reconciliation

Students and staff learned about Indigenous traditions, culture, and heritage through a presentation by the Kehewin Native Dance Theatre in honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. 

The school also invited staff and students to wear orange shirts and participate in Every Child Matter-based activities. 

Hungry for the Homeless

In alignment with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity, students participated in the school’s annual Food Bank Fundraiser: Hungry for the Homeless. This year, over 500lbs of food and $4,500 in cash were collected. 

This aligns with Goal Three: Equity and Inclusion.


Holy Cross Elementary School


Terry Fox

Grade 6 teacher Ms. Lloyd hosted a kick-off assembly for the school’s Terry Fox Run. Students learned who Terry Fox was and about his Marathon of Hope. 

The school raised $740 for the Terry Fox Foundation.

This is in alignment with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity under the outcome of promoting social justice and action. 

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

During the last week of September, staff and students participated in a variety of learning experiences in order to gain an understanding of the importance of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. 

Students learned about Residential Schools and gained a greater awareness of Indigenous culture and heritage. 

Activities included reading and listening to books about Residential Schools, Indigenous art lessons, and a presentation by the Kehewin Native Dance Theatre. 

This aligns with Goal Three: Equity and Inclusion. 

Mountain Bike Racing

The Holy Cross Mountain Bike Team represented their school in a Mountain Bike Race on September 28.

This event aligns with Goal Two: Expanding Student Pathways.

St. Dominic Elementary School


Beginning of Year Mass

In alignment with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity, St. Dominic Elementary gathered as a school community to attend mass. 

Fr. Nong joined school administration for a walk through and to bless all of the classrooms and prayer tables.


Terry Fox

St. Dominic Elementary raised over $3,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation. One Grade 4 student went above and beyond, collecting $2,000 in donations. 

This aligns with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity. 


Truth and Reconciliation

Students had the opportunity to learn more about Indigenous culture and heritage by participating in school-wide activities throughout the month of September. 

Many staff and students showed their support on Orange Shirt Day. The school held a contest to create a St. Dominic Elementary School Orange Shirt to honour Every Child Matters. The design chosen was created by a Grade 5 student. 

This aligns with Goal Three: Equity and Inclusion. 


Assumption

MMIW Red Series

The school invited Susie O’Connor from Images Studies to share her work from the MMIW Red Series. O’Connor also visited some of the art and religion students to discuss her photography and answer questions.

This is in alignment with Goal Three: Equity and Inclusion. 

Cake Auction and Band Fundraiser

AJSH students participating in the Senior Band trip to Toronto and Niagara Falls held a cake auction where they raised over $980. 

The funds will offset the cost of the trip for students. 

This aligns with Goal Two: Student Success.


Mental Health Miles


The school celebrated Imperial’s continued support for the Mental Health Matters Campaign during their Back to School BBQ.

They also kicked-off their Mental Health Mile, which will focus on their first mental health strategy for the year: the benefits of exercise. 

This aligns with Goal Two: Student Success. 


Lieutenant Governor’s Award

Grade 10 AJSH student Corbin WIlliams received the Lieutenant Governor’s Award, which recognizes students in grade levels who have shown tremendous growth in developing skills to better themselves by demonstrating determination, initiative, and independence. 

This aligns with Goal Two: Student Success. 


Light of Christ

Care Event

Light of Christ attended Lac La Biche’s Let’s Connect Event to promote the school’s programming. This included, Preschool, Daycare, Kindergarten,  French Immersion, High School, Athletics, and Mental Health initiatives. 

This is in alignment with Goal Three: Equity and Inclusion. 

Beginning of Year Mass

Kindergarten to Grade 12 students attended the school’s Beginning of Year Mass on September 14 at St. Catherine’s Parish. The school was blessed to have so many students participate in the ministries as they modeled the importance of faith to others in attendance. 

Fr. Anselmo attended the school to bless the prayer tables, classrooms, and students.

This aligns with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity. 

Holy Family Catholic School

Beginning of Year Blessing

Fr. Slavko attended the school as one of their partner priests for the Beginning of Year Blessing, which was held on Ukrainian-Canadian Heritage Day. 

The school used this as an opportunity to reflect on the blessings they have, compared to those living in war-torn nations. 

This aligns with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity.

Truth and Reconciliation

Holy Family honoured National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with Indigenous dancers. The presentation highlighted their culture and heritage. 

Candy bags were sold to fundraise for Water First, a non-profit organization that provides clean drinking water to First Nations communities.

This is in alignment with Goal Three: Equity and Inclusion.
