Yesterday, our schools were buzzing with excitement as students and families came together for Welcome Back Day!
Across Lakeland Catholic, our Board of Trustees and staff from the St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic Education Centre joined school teams to welcome families, reconnect with students and celebrate the start of another incredible year of learning, faith and community.
There were smiles, conversations, reunions and plenty of excitement for what’s ahead. Families also had the chance to enter our Welcome Back draws, with Mental Health Matters items generously provided by Imperial Oil included in our prize packages. Congratulations to our winners, and thank you to Imperial Oil for helping us make the day even more special!
Most of all, thank you to every student, family and staff member who came out and made Welcome Back Day such a wonderful celebration.
Our schools are ready. Our staff are ready. And after yesterday, our students can walk through the doors on the first day of school feeling welcomed, confident and ready to learn.
May God bless our students, families and staff as we begin a joyful and faith-filled 2026–27 school year.

This week, Lakeland Catholic staff came together for our Division Learning Day, beginning with faith formation before moving into focused professional learning designed to strengthen practice and elevate student learning.
K–6 teachers explored equitable elementary assessment with Karley Alleyn, while Grades 7–12 teachers joined Danielle Paloposki of the Competency Code Collective to explore transforming assessment to better fuel student learning. Educational Assistants, Pre-K staff, SLPAs and Family Outreach Workers strengthened strategies for supportive, responsive interactions with students.
Different learning, shared commitment: continually growing, refining our practice and pursuing excellence for every student we serve.
Thank you to our facilitators and staff for investing in the learning that strengthens our classrooms and schools.

A joyful beginning to a new school year.
Today, Lakeland Catholic staff came together as one faith-filled community to begin the 2026–27 school year, grounded in prayer, strengthened through the Eucharist and reminded of the impact that small moments of love and joy can have each day.
The morning began with the Rosary, prayed in both English and French and led by Trustees Lana Lambert and Jean-Marc Michaud, followed by the celebration of Mass with Fr. René, Fr. Nong, Fr. Marvin and Fr. Trini.
From there, keynote speaker Steven Csorba of PEPY Life brought energy, inspiration and a powerful invitation to rediscover joy in the everyday. Through the Joy Movement, Steven challenged us to recognize the micro-moments that shape our days: a smile, a conversation, a small act of kindness, and the joy they create both within us and for those around us. When we intentionally notice these moments, their impact accumulates, shaping how we feel, how we connect and how we show up for others.
Steven also reflected on St. Francis’ teaching of “perfect joy,” reminding us that struggle and joy can coexist, and that even in difficult moments, there are still opportunities to recognize and experience joy.
The message connected beautifully with our Division faith theme, Doing Small Things with Great Love, reminding us that seemingly small moments, repeated day after day, can have a profound impact on ourselves and those around us.
We also had the opportunity to celebrate our long-service award recipients, recognizing staff for their years of dedicated service to Lakeland Catholic. We are grateful for the time, care and commitment they have given to our students, families and school communities. Congratulations, and thank you for the many ways you continue to make a difference.
The afternoon continued with professional learning across our Division. Teachers, administrators, Family Outreach Workers, Academic Support Program staff and secretaries participated in Atrieve training, while our Educational Assistants, Early Learning Educators, Speech-Language Pathology team and custodial staff continued their learning with Steven, exploring how joy, movement and intentional daily interactions can positively shape the experiences of the students we serve.
As we prepare to welcome students back, we carry a simple invitation into the year ahead: notice the joy, embrace the small moments and never underestimate the difference they can make.
Here’s to a joyful 2026–27 school year! ✨
