LCSD’s journey toward excellence continues. Guided by faith and shaped by Lakeland Catholic’s Education Assurance Plan, our Professional Learning Framework is moving forward. This afternoon, staff across the division engaged in meaningful sessions, including a Blanket Exercise in reflection and in honour of Truth and Reconciliation Day. Additional sessions focused on literacy, numeracy, and assessment, all supported by our Systems Excellence Team.
In September, our Lakeland Catholic schools spent time reflecting on the Catholic Social Teaching of Human Dignity—reminding us that every person is created in God’s image and deserves respect, care, and compassion.
As October begins, our focus turns to The Common Good. This teaching calls us to look beyond ourselves and work together so that every person has the chance to thrive.

Yesterday, students from all 8 of our schools came together for the very first IGNITE Faith Retreat of the year! Through prayer, music, and reflection, our students celebrated LCSD's faith with the theme “Small things with great love,” inspired by St. Teresa of Calcutta. Today, two of our three Lakeland Catholic Schools in Cold Lake, received concerning phone threats. Out of an abundance of caution, St. Dominic Elementary School, Holy Cross Elementary School and Assumption Jr/Sr High School moved into Emergency Response Procedures.
All students and staff are safe, and our emergency protocols were followed with care and professionalism. We are especially thankful to the RCMP for their diligent response, ongoing support, and clear guidance as we worked together to keep everyone safe. We continue to work in collaboration with them.

Today, students at École Notre Dame Elementary, École Dr. Brosseau Middle School, and École Notre Dame High School held their first fire drills of the year. These practices ensure that, in an emergency, every student knows where to go and what to do.
Fire drills take only a few minutes and play an important role in supporting student safety and preparedness in our schools.

ÉNDHS Vice Principal James de Sousa and his band students brought a wide range of instruments to École Dr. Brosseau Middle School — creating an unforgettable Instrument Zoo!
From trumpets to trombones, students had the chance to explore, listen, and even try them out. What a fun, hands-on way to discover the joy of music! 🎶
