Today, Superintendent Sheldon Germain had the privilege of joining Board Chair Anna Brockhoff, Trustee Jean Marc Michaud, Trustee Dana Chaulk, and Mayor Bob Mattice in judging at Holy Cross Elementary’s Science Fair.
The student presentations were exceptional. From creative experiments to thoughtful demonstrations, students demonstrated not only their knowledge, but also the time, dedication, and curiosity they’ve invested in their learning.
Events like this reflect the strength of hands-on learning and the confidence our students are building as they explore, question, and discover within Lakeland Catholic.

Honouring Culture. Strengthening Leadership - Lakeland Catholic Administration Retreat
Last evening, our administrative and senior leadership teams had the privilege of learning from Elder Robert and Elder Linda of Cold Lake First Nations.

Through stories, language, and lived experience, they shared an in-depth understanding of Dene Sųłiné culture, history, and traditional teachings. They spoke to the importance of preserving language and culture for future generations, and the responsibility we all share in ensuring this knowledge continues forward.
Elder Linda was particularly thoughtful in sharing perspectives that highlighted connections between Indigenous teachings and Catholic values—especially in areas of faith, prayer, respect, and community.
Throughout the evening, they emphasized values of sharing, kindness, humility, independence, and a strong focus on the future—principles that guide both community and leadership.
This morning, Elder Linda joined us again for a traditional smudging, offering a time for reflection as we began our day together.
Learning opportunities like this are essential for our leaders. By deepening their understanding, our administrators bring this knowledge back into their schools—helping to create environments where all students feel seen, supported, and connected.
This work strengthens our ongoing journey of reconciliation and reinforces our shared commitment to serving students and families across Lakeland Catholic.

Lakeland Catholic is proud to celebrate Braelan and our continued partnership with MPI.
Through the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP), Braelan has become a valued member of the MPI welding shop since 2024. His strong work ethic, attention to detail, and willingness to help wherever needed have made him an asset to the team.
Braelan plays an important role in daily operations—assisting with welding projects, organizing inventory, and maintaining a clean and safe workspace. He consistently takes initiative, including with the tasks that often go unnoticed.
Throughout his apprenticeship, Braelan has shown meaningful growth in both his skills and knowledge of the welding trade. His dedication and positive attitude continue to set him up for success in the skilled trades.

Through RAP, students gain valuable hands-on experience while earning high school credits and exploring careers in the skilled trades. Rock is currently working with NOVA Mechanical Systems, where he is beginning his path toward plumber certification.
As Leon Sampson, General Manager of NOVA Mechanical Systems, shared, the RAP program connects employers with motivated students while helping build the future workforce. Partnerships like this strengthen community connections and support the next generation of skilled tradespeople.
Rock brings a strong work ethic and a positive attitude to both the NOVA Mechanical Systems team and their clients. He is also proudly following in the footsteps of his uncle, Norm Vallee, founder of the company.
NOVA Mechanical Systems looks forward to supporting Rock as he continues his journey beyond graduation.
